Bun Namazu — Nothingness (2022)
Medium: Projection Art & Field Recordings
Duration: 18:19 min
Exhibition: Art'In Lima (Ponte de Lima, Portugal, 2026)
Nothingness is an 18-minute audiovisual installation exploring the relationship between architecture, space, and landscape at the São Domingos Mine in Mértola, Alentejo. Built using field recordings captured on-site - echoing empty buildings, wind through iron structures, and the silent oxidation of metal - the piece contrasts the toxicity of acidic waters with the raw geometry of industrial ruins, asking: What remains of human ambition when the economic engine shuts down?

ABOUT
Bruno Ferreira (b. Portugal) is an audiovisual artist and composer whose practice investigates the complex intersections between ecology, technology, and human perception. Working across experimental sound design, field recording, wildlife documentation, and immersive installation, his work mediates between the microscopic realities of terrestrial ecosystems and the expansive architecture of cosmic space. His multidisciplinary approach is deeply rooted in his studies in organic agriculture and an early engagement with observational astronomy. Since 1995—beginning with the hand-crafting of wooden quadrants to measure celestial coordinates and early telescope observation—his fascination with spatial dynamics, light, and natural rhythms has informed his visual and sonic research.Ferreira’s musical path began in 1997 through garage bands, evolving in 1999 into pioneering hybrid productions that merged early computer-based digital audio environments with raw, analogue thrash-metal instrumentation. This early rejection of genre boundaries launched an independent trajectory defined by radical experimentation, sculpting raw dissonance, noise, and spatial acoustic design into refined harmonic balance. Over time, his photographic documentation—focusing on birdlife, natural landscapes, macro detail, and fluid motion—naturally expanded into video art and moving image, creating dedicated visual environments for his compositions. He is the founder and curator of Dan Dada Records, and the creative mind behind the sonic projects Bun Namazu and Bandulu Dub.
